WHAT: The Earthwave Beach Festival is a multi-discipline sports and entertainment event.
The highlights of the program are attempts to set two new Guinness World Records. These include:
The ‘most surfers riding the same wave’, where hundreds of surfers enter the ocean and try to all ride on one wave. Open to anyone who can catch and ride a wave straight towards the beach for 5 seconds.
The ‘largest bikini parade’, where women of all ages in two-piece swimsuits walk for a mile (1 610 metres) on the beach and are counted at the end of the course.
Sports include surfing, tandem surfing and touch rugby along with fun beach activities for the whole family such as Dig for Gold, raffles, give-aways, auctions, beach cleanups, etc
Entertainment takes place inside the Muizenberg Civic Hall (Pavilion) and includes exhibitors, vendors, displays and talks on environmentally friendly products and services alongside live music acts, food sales and a beach bar
LIVE MUSIC: Acts start at 4pm with The Rudimentals followed by 7th Son, The Ryan Kidwell Band and Kings Down South.
WHERE: The sports activities are staged on the beach and in the ocean at Surfers Corner, Muizenberg. The entertainment and exhibition components are staged in the Muizenberg Civic Hall (Pavilion) located on the beachfront overlooking the action.
WHEN: The event runs from 8am to 11pm on Sunday 27 September 2015

08h00 – 16h00 Share the Stoke Outreach Surfing Games Surfing and beach activities for youngsters from the various outreach programmes that use surfing as an incentive to improve the lives of youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds
08h00 – 12h00 Earthwave Tandem Surfing Open Demonstrations, celebrity heat and surfing contest with two people riding on a surfboard
09h00 – 12h00 Beach Touch Rugby Championships Touch rugby tournament featuring the Western Cape’s best players
09h00 – 23h00 Exhibitions, sales, talks and entertainment in Pavilion Includes exhibitors, vendors, talks, live music, food trucks and a ‘beach bar’.
11h00 – 12h30 Guinness World Record – largest bikini parade Registration online – www.earthwave.info . Sign in from 9am on the day. Line up at 10.30 and walk a mile (1.6kms) on the beach. Current record is 1 085 participants
12h00 – 12h30 Dig for Gold Youngsters digging in demarcated area on the beach searching for prizes
12h30 – 14h00 Guinness World Record – most surfers on the same wave Registration online – www.earthwave.info . Sign in from 10.30am on the day. Line up at 12h30 – enter the ocean at 13h00. One hour (approx. 6 or 7 waves ridden). Current record is 110 set at Earthwave in 2009.
WHO: The event is suitable for people of all ages and is FREE for spectators.
COSTS: A nominal fee is charged for participation in events. The activities in the Pavilion are free until 2pm – thereafter entrance is R30 per person until 10pm
ORGANISERS: The Earthwave Beach Festival was founded in 2006 by Paul and Dene Botha from Kahuna Promotions. This year is the seventh edition
The entertainment and exhibition aspects of the festival are run by Regan and Monique Tacon from Goodtimes Events
The festival is sanctioned by Surfing South Africa (SSA), recognised by the Dept of Sport and Recreation as the national controlling body for the sport and a member of SASCOC and the International Surfing Association (ISA)
